New Look, New Year.

righto. so we're gonna usher in 2005 tmr. amazing. this has bn a helluva yr, ain't it? what with the germany trip and the big "As" that all seem so far away now. Somehow, it hasn't sunk in tht school life as i know it is gone for gd. It's like any momment now, with the end of the dec hols, we'll be trooping back to schl in our uniforms. mmhmm. not a comforting thought, i guess. But "adult life" ahead seems equally daunting.

heh. well, lotsa stuff has happened in btw since xmas... for one, i finally started wrk! yep, am waitressing at the jap restaurant near my hse. honestly, sometimes when pleasant stuff happen to you when you least expect it... you start to feel slightly insecure, like any momment it'll be taken away fr. you or smth. I've always believed tht when something seems too gd to be true, it is. i guess i'm a pessimistic optimist.

yea, cos the last time i went to tht restaurant for a meal with my family+ cousins, i was like, "my my, it'd be great if i cld wrk here."
#1 cos the place was damn near my house,
#2 cos i loved the waitresses' attire, lol.

it's really funky, a black top+ jeans+ sport shoes, a red waist apron+ bandanna. very kawaii, very comfortable. *laughs* frivolous me.

thn there was this nite i was lamenting to my cousin abt most of my friends finding jobs and being too busy for me. i was alr bored to tears at hme, aftr my 2nd day back in sg fr. nz. somehow, the conversation steered towards " haha... i wldn't mind wrking for the jap restaurant manz, can kope food..." or smth or the other. Yup, and by a sheer stroke of coincidence, xiaomin told me tht she spotted the restaurant's hiring ad on the classifieds the nxt there. Yup. So there you have it. Both me and my cuz went for the walk-in interview and got the job. =)

wrk's been pretty exciting so far. the kitchen staff are hilarious, and they're such nice pple. i've 4 bosses, and 2 of thm are really intimidating. high stds to adhere to. but they're nice and really hands-on in the business, in the sense tht, when it gets darn crowded, whoever's there will just chip in to help. my fellow waitresses are also a fun bunch, tho afew were kinda dao at first.

day 1 was kinda disastrous, cos we had 3 newbies, and orders just went missing, or got sent to the wrong tables. but i guess i'm getting the hang of stuff, and starting to enjoy myself too. =)

yup, enough of wrk alr! to bed to bed. must be fresh to meet new challenges tmr.
ganbatte ne!

shattered stained glass.

this might not seem appropriate, but gosh, those scenes fr. hollywood (think: day aftr tmr, deep impact) did happen for real today. a tsunami, death toll that rose to more than 6000 in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Malaysia and still rising. we were all sleeping like babies at tht momment though. geez. we mere mortals, despite all the advances in technology, are still at the mercy of the forces of nature afterall.

----- news excerpt from Asian Tsunami tht killed thousands, The Guardian----

Holidays turned to disaster in southern Thailand, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists to its southern beaches during the Christmas season. At least 198 people died, 1,900 others were injured and many more - reportedly including foreign tourists on diving excursions - were missing, authorities said.

"Just out of nowhere, suddenly the streets [were] awash and people just running and screaming from the beach," John Hyde, a vacationing Australian state lawmaker, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

"People were getting swept along still on their motorbikes," Simon Morse, another Australian tourist, told the ABC. "There were cars that had been picked up by the storm surge and they were getting pushed down the road, taking things out as they went."

The owner of two resorts on Phi Phi island - where the Hollywood blockbuster "The Beach", starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed - said that 200 of his bungalows were swept out to sea, along with some of his employees and customers. "I am afraid that there will be a high figure of foreigners missing in the sea, and also my staff," said Chan Marongtaechar, who was in the Thai capital of Bangkok at the time.

weirdly, exhaustion always hits me on christmas day. xmas eve was lovely though.
just.... thankful for certain pple in my life.

and i felt like crap on xmas. argh. till the nxt time. i'm still tired.

The view of Lake Wakatipu fr. Walter's Peak. This was my favourite place in the entire trip. You take a cruise acc. the lake to reach Walter's Peak which is actually just this single farming establishment. A lovely hideaway, untouched, unspoilt and pristine. Just felt this sense of peace and serenity here, amongst the pretty gardens, the few houses, the gorgeous views, and the cute animals
