Sasha and BoLo

My cousin has a new puppy named bolo, aftr the russian guy from the amazing race. (which i don't watch.) The lil bugger looks like the starhub doggy! Thing is, i haven't had a chance to see it yet. boooooo.i want a puppy too. actually, maybe not. cats are more independent.. i want a kitten!!

i used to keep a golden retriever too, named RustY. He was lovely, had light golden fur and was HUGE. Grew as tall as me within 5,6 mnths?? i was p3 then i think. Damn naughty too, absolutely loved sniffing arnd, and digging up goodness knows wad. He created massive craters in my uncle's back garden. =s (We lived nxt door to each other back thn, and had adjoined gardens. )he's my uncle's technically, but we took care of it(him). Then he was sent to obedience school. And i really don't know how they trained poor Rusty , cos he was very unsettled when he came home after 1-2 months in there?!

I remember talking to uncle seah (another neighbour, with 3 dogs), holding onto rusty's leash, and rusty was so nervous and jumpy he peed on the pavement (which never happened b4 obedience schl, he'd always look for grass patches to do his business.) pffft. well the story didn't have a happy ending. My uncle gave/sold? Rusty to another family, with a huge garden, so tht he cld roam/dig as much as he wanted (supposedly). At least tht's wad the lady told me. I remember feeling pretty upset, cos i had no idea of the "transaction" beforehand. Oh well. I wonder if Rusty's still alive now? He'd be a mighty fine dog, and old... in doggy years.

Anyone's watched Quill the japanese movie abt the guide dog? I loved it, cos it's one of those uncoventional films.. and it reminded me of Rusty.

Drivin' Class

the visits to the bbdc these few days have been nothing short of an adventure for me. *hiakz* i'm a total LOST SHEEP there la! yep, went to register last saturday, with el's company, but i'm pretty much on my own for the rest of my visits. Which is gd... and bad. Bad cos i have noone to look silly, lost, and newbie-ish with me, gd cos i'm totally independent! =p

BTL 1.01 was a bore, tho the instructor's lamee sense of humour did salvage the situation a lil
Eg. Him: There's only 1 situation where u can drink beer and drive.
Us : *quizzical look??!!*
Him: ROOT BEER la
Me : -_-
My slot was arnd 3smth in the aftrnn, and my class had qte a few of those motorbicycle paikia kinds tt kept making smart alecky comments! It's qte fun la, as in the entire experience made me realize how *frog in the well* i was, cos there was really lots and lots i didn't know abt!! like insurance policies, liable parties, demerit points, fines and other rubbishy legal details. which... i still dunnoe, sadly. =p Yep thn zw happened to be in the building, so we went to makan at westmall aft tht.

BTL 1.02 was more interesting. I think it's cos i chose the night slot, my "classmates" were all arnd the same age. The lesson was livelier with more comments. Met Huiyian and Anqi in the same class! I really preferred this instructor, can tell he is the very strict sort but he really knows wad he's talking abt, and is able to put it clearly accoss. think vv loh style. haha, and the cute thing is, he acty teaches us how to be "exam-smart" i felt like i was in schl all over agn. Like, he'll go... "flip to page 45, highlight paragraphs 91 and 92..." and he'll offer tips abt the BTT. Mmhhmm... tricky guy, always ask u some question tht'll lead you to answer in a certain way, thn he'll go " salah la! " grin. Met anqi and huiyian in tht class too! Like, what a small world! heh.

Geez. i got lost on my way to bbdc b4 tht night slot tho. gawd. ended up in jURONG la! loong story. Saw joanne on my way back too, cept i called her huiying. arG. haix. and i'm taking my evaluation tmr morn. wish me luck i wanna pass it on my 1st try!

HaPpY BirThdaY !!!!

Alright, so becky turns a grand old 19 today!!! HaPpY birThdaY girL !! Like i said, welcome to the club. =) You know how we always celebrate birthday "milestones" like sweet 16, sassY 17 (ok i made tht up), seXy 18 (i made tht up too) and... errr. wad do we give for 19?

negligible 19. -_- Sorry, but tht was the first adjective tht popped out in my mind. I suppose u'll get what i mean when u turn 19. Nobody really makes a big deal out of ur 19th birthday, cos it's like, you're neither here nor there?! According to jaime, it's ur your last year of being a teenager. (i used to think 18 was the last.) So we're not teens anymore, but we aren't adults yet. Pretty confusing if you ask me. But heY, enjoy it while it lasts, like before we hit the big 20... and society expects us to act/behave more ReSponSiblY. (ahem, ahem)

So today we held a b'day dinner treat for becks at Lau Pa Sat. Grin. Despite the well-intentioned plans, the male lead couldn't make it. soo.. oh well. ordered StingRay, salad YoutiaO, HokkieN mee, SaTay and praWn omeLette. geez, i'm getting hungry as i look at the list agn. *reminds self to run tmr* Ha, it's a nice change fr restaurant dining, honestly. yep, thn we followed xiaomin's (die-hard romantic) wishes to walk by the river, except tht we didn't acty get to reach in the end, but chose to blow the imaginary candle flames and cut the cake in the midst of this breezy, grassy area in raffles place amongst all those toweRing buildinGs, with the near full moon as our witness. *grin* heh, HapPy 19th deaR.

What'S tht sonG ?
aaaah whilst passing by this clothes store with xm and elisa just now, they were playing this really really really nice song!!!!! I thought it was definitely Kit Chan's, cos it really sounded like her. At least the singer's diction, style was like hers! apparently not, cos i've searched her previous albums for the lyrics.. and the song doesn't exist? It has this dreamy holiday, cross btw lounge and bossa nova, disney "anastasia" kinda feel and mentioned paris in it (tht's the only wrd i caught) So if anyone, knows what song it is... TELL ME. You'll be handsomely rewarded. *sweet smiLe*

AlTo GatheRing + becKy + junioRs
haha. let me backtrack a lil... well, the gathering last friday turned out fine! i guess i have the tendency to wry too much. Like maybe the turnout will be poor, or pple cancelling at the last momment, too much food, no atmosphere and so on. Well all those happened, one way or another, but i sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed myself lots !! Candice was the vip tht day, cos she's back fr. her studies in uk on a short break (she flew back on sunday le) So me, tammy, shuen and huishan met up at coro, and WALKED all the way to NJC to visit our juniors and join candice there. Grace, our other long lost alto SL came too, so we got to know her.

Just walking past rgps, thru the hillcrest rd stretch tht evening brought back those days we'd used to gripe abt how the side gate was locked and had to walk the LONG WAY out. nevertheless, walking the long way, singing silly songs w the choir ppz, having "sectionals on the move", watching the nue's antics, laughing, chatting,bitching... it was just one of those seemingly insignificant yet lovely times spent together.=)

I could feel the tension in the atmosphere the momment we stepped into the Sanctuary. (yes, tht's where they had their choir prac). Lo and behold, Ms Lim was drilling the tenors. heh, it really brought back memories of those days of us standing there, shivering in our toes, singing row by row, worse 2 by 2.. or *gasp* solo for her till she was satisfied. mmhmm, i think the juniors sounded qte decent, they're pretty much on their way. Just more polishing here and there, smoothing out those tricky bits and they'll be fine. Although ms lim seems to think otherwise, heh . Proud of the altos too, i liked their sound and i'm not being biased here. =p

Invited the juniors to my place on a whim b4 the rest of us snrs left for my house. Dinner was actually put together at last min's notice, cos till tht day itself i wasn't even sure who would actually turn up, let alone know to cook for how many pple. Funny how it was initially an Alto Gathering, tht expanded into a ChoiR gaTherinG, thn shrunk back into AltO gathering with the juniors joining in as an afterthought. Amazing efficiency really, with compliments to my mum and maid.My only task was to boil the pasta, while they whipped up the fried rice, made the almond jelly+longan dessert plus pasta sauce. Oh yea, we even had watermelon slices for fruit. Lol, it pretty much became a set meal already!

Candice and tammy were really advising us abt uni courses and stuff, and i must say it was pretty insightful. Played catch up, shared stories, experiences... and xiaowei joined us aftr a super "suaY" day at wrk, lol. Thn our juniors came... haha.. and wad a huge noisy grp it waS!! *grin* shuxian, michelle, cheryl, ruixia, serene, thomas, eugene, benghee, ben, wenlin. It was really nice seeing all of them again. haha, and of course thomas was the entertainment, alg with hs and her "dirty" jokes. Yup. Forced them to sing a song b4 they left, which they "graciously" did. *smiles* was nice... but really off, haha. The person who arranged it is a genius! am wondering if it's self-arranged.

mmhmm. so tht's all folks for tdaY. thx for reading! (if you got this far)

the BFG(s)

my oh my oh my!! heh. i actually got to take a photo with the world's 2 tallest men today! grin. One is like 2.34m and the other is 2.38m tall! To think i just saw them on the news last night?? Apparently they're on a world tour and singapore's one of the stops. The coolest thing was tht sajc actually invited them to their funfair!!! i think when me , elisa and elizabeth were standing there taking the photo we only amted to the ht of their hips or smth? i really felt dwarfed at tht momment. You know, maybe giants existed in the past. They weren't gigantically huge per se, but yea just much taller and bigger thn the average human today. Then their size gradually diminished due to natural selection?? maybe the huge body size just wasn't suitable for the environment, or maybe they mated with smaller sized giants and gradually evolved. ha, crappy digression. i'm really excited abt the photo, but currently it's with elizabeth. heh, will post it up here soon. I got to shake hands with them too! mmhmm. huge hands they have.

i noticed tht one of them looked pretty sian though. Guess it really isn't easy, being treated like an exhibit? The other guy was really friendly and funny, he was like doing hi-5s (low-5s for him in this case) with the students, comparing knuckle-size, palm sizes and yea, u really get the picture of a friendly giant playing with a bunch of giggly children!! =)

also got this glittery gold hair tattoo done. saw ernest singing with his band too!! they were pretty ok. yep, today's pretty much a day of unexpected surprises.

the long lost friends.

After 2 years of hiatus, my rg class clique finally met up! Boy was it good seeing everyone again. Especially clara. i haven't seen her in ages!! grin. she appeared with a present tht was meant for my bday LAST YEAR. We had dinner at breeks in taka, and it was non-stop laughing and talking for us. It feels gd to know that the chemistry we share is still there, there's no awkwardness whatsoever. =) Pretty amazing, considering the few of us went to totally different jcs, and didn't get a chance to meet up since results?! sweet. Seems tht everyone's lives' have gotten pretty exciting, esp pq's! we've agreed to meet up every first wednesday of the month, and hopefully this wrks out, i don't want it to be 2 yrs later b4 we nxt meet up!

Heard some heart-aching news of one of our batch-mates getting cancer fr pq. she's sucha strong cheerful girl. thankful to know tht she's making a gd recovery aftr the operation. It hit home thn how fragile life actually is? Do treasure your health pple... it really is important.

the greatest lie

"... and it ends up saying that everyone believes the world's greatest lie."

"What's the world's greatest lie?"

"It's this: that a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."

"Everyone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and not afraid to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny."

~paulo coelho, The Alchemist

Isn't tht damn true? I'm sure all of us had big bold dreams when we were younger, altho it seems that every step forward we take now... we're further and further away fr. realizing them?! I somehow forgot the person i wanted to be alg the way?

the rooster crows
spent the new year catching up with the extended family. this new yr's pretty quiet tho... kinda incomplete on my maternal side...2nd and 3rd uncles not back fr nz, whilst my smallest aunt and her family have migrated to australia and can't come back for 2 yrs i think?. nevertheless, it's always nice to be back amongst family. the girls have all blossomed into lovely young ladies! while the boys, still boys. haha. albeit a lil more grown up, and with deeper voices.

played with sparklers with the cousins from both sides. it's our annual "kids" tradition, and the baton has been passed on. while it used to be either me or shan who contributed the sparklers, the lil ones are doing so now on their own accord. haha. it really is amusing to see the lil boys(3-5 yr olds) so brave and all, playing with them sparklers, waving them madly abt. Like," hey, look at me! i'm not scared." cutee. and daryl constructed this rocket thing, that sadly, failed to take off. Poor astronauts terminated in the mission.

surprisingly, i found myself with lots to converse with the adults.*gasp* another sign tht... i'm joining their ranks soon. haha.. and my uncles played xbox. imagine tht! all young at heart la.

the gang
it was pretty much a mixed-up outing this time, cos we had pple coming in at different times. yep started off with me, bear and hc. we had dinner at citylink's nooch. i still love the food there, but haha. yea, as zw puts it, it's really just high-class hawker fare with a price tag to match. jh's horfun look-alike was pretty yummy, maybe i'll order tht the nxt time i dine there. horrible thing was tht we waited damnnnnnnnn loooooong for our food to come. arnd 1 hr plus??? awarded thm a fat ZERO on their feedback form for service. think the kitchen's really shorthanded or smth, the paragon one is much better.

Leeting came and i shared this thai mango glutinous rice dessert with her. man, i love it! but it took ages to come too. i was like, "maybe they're still harvesting the mangoes."
Leet " yea, maybe they're still growing the rice."
bear " maybe they haven't even sown the seeds!" haha. just an excerpt of how lame our convos can get. thn zw and jy joined in a lil later. hung out in hmv to buy some vcds for our movie marathon at xw's place. The Full Monty, Save the Last Dance and Van Helsing.

paid a short visit to river angpao. stared at this really scary ride for qte some time, observing it... but everyone was too hum to go on. *aaaaah* honestly, if i wasn't wearing tht mini i'd have gone!!!! (excuses, excuses, excuses) but damnnnn. what a pity. it was close to midnite by the time we left for xiaowei's place. it's weird, but i think time pretty much flew by tht day, altho we weren't really doing anything. and time flies when you're enjoying urself??

as for the account of the rest of the slpover... just pop over to xw's blog. nifty lil pics she's got there. heh. the poor boys were just so tired out somehow, all snoozing here and there. supper was concocted courtesy of chef zw and hc. thn we watched full monty tog, and i pretty much enjoyed the show! damn funny, but it's just nice, like not damn sick or anything. i so adore british humour. think it was close to 5am by the time we knocked out.

i woke up damn early tho arnd 7 plus, just cldn't slp on. so i read The Alchemist, and finished the entire bk by the time the others finally woke up. mmhmm. think everyone's really adorable in the mornings. We had someone hiding under his blanket, another 2 arguing over who shld brush his teeth later. haha, really amusing.

kireii ne, anata

heh. i WAS surprised when 2 of my guy colleagues said tht to me, qte seriously, "xiao jie, ni hen mei." simply translated, it means " you are beautiful." flattered, tho i think beautiful is stretching it abit too far..haha. my response? just a cool " arigatouu." they are sweet la. tho i suppose for my next job, if i ever do get one, i'd prob not meet pple as nice as those wrking at the place? uncle tan wanted to cook yaki-udon specially for me, when i acty went back early for dinner tht day (and found tht there was no food left for me -_- )

my last day... was pretty fun. haha. i was the waitress in charge of doing lao yusheng, tog with my cap. haha... thn yea, must scatter/pour the condiments saucer by saucer, thn say all the 4 letter cheng-yus. Like put salmon slices and say "nian nian you yu" ... thn lemon "da ji da li"... thn a whole lot of other stuff *beams* i managed the entire sequence correctly! go me ! cos the boss invited his entire family.. arnd 20plus pple, and they took up both pte rms. best thing was, the captain hum and made me do the adults' table, while she did the kids' table. heh, what to do, took it as some perf. ,did my thing, and earned an angpow fr. the boss. *smilez*

mizuki chan, the cutee lil jap girl came back with her family on tht day too! thn aftr everything we had to stay back and do spring-cleaning for the restaurant, cos they wanted a brand new start for the new year... so the table settings were removed, dishes and plates stacked up, tables and chairs "scrubbed". warh. tiring lor. considering i haven't even spring-cleaned my own rm yet! the irony. heh. thn i took summore photos with the girls and the bosses.. =)

yup. all in all, i'm glad i took up this job la. will post the photos soon.

giving thanks

just read michelia's mail to the class. kinda overwhelmed by a wave of emotions... it isn't really to do with the contents of the email.. but yea, i'm so proud of all of us. Like we've all found jobs, experienced (albeit a teeny bit) the realities of life and the working world, and i bet most of us have gained in 1 way or another, having grown up a lil, matured a lil. Starting to miss schl-life when everything was less complicated. At least you know where u were gg thn. Like fr. pri schl, you move on to sec schl.. fr. sec schl to jc or poly and blah.... The path ahead was clear thn.

now, we've kinda reached a crossroad. And it really is up to us where we'll be heading towards. the scary thing is, what we choose now, will be wad we'll be doing for the rest of our lives? major major decision. *sweatdrop* mmhmm.

kk. back to boring stuff.. aka "how i spent my off day!" i woke up at an unearthly 5.30am tday... =s *shrug* just cldn't slp on somehow. yup, so i decided i was gg to go swimming. went with my mum to ssc... realized agn tht i really shld make gd use of the facilities there! i mean. it's like totally wasted, cos i hardly ever go, and we are still paying for the membership fees. yup, and i found out i cld bring guests in too! haha. so yay. who wants to be my swimming buddy?

sth really embarrassing happened there. cos i was wearing a 2-piece as underwear, so i forgot to pack my ahem bra-ssiere in. just imagine my horror after showering. so no choice, wore my top over the bikini top, which left 2 unsightly wet splotches. of course i tried using the hairdryer to salvage the situation, which helped a lil but not much. =s gawd. how mortifying. yea, but btwn my mum and me, we somehow managed to make it look less unsightly... worst thing was my mum just HAD to tell the other lady in the powder rm wad happened. =x oh. in the end i just wore the top back to front. and hey! i discovered a new way of wearing it. lol.

thn i met my cousin in bugis junction cos they wanted to shop there. haha... i was like totally refusing to part with my hard-earned $$! only got elisa's bday prezzie part1 and part2... shopping at muji was really fun!!! i was selecting a combination of diff jap snacks for her... the idea kinda came in like a brainwave, aftr i saw their cny snack packages. thn aftr tht i did some lingerie shopping. geez. female underwear is like how ex la!!! i got 2 of my favourite pierre cardin sets agn. one pink, one black.(they're having some new yr special, it's pretty much worth it!)

after tht was dinner at my jap restaurant with the girls. it was pretty much a satisfying meal, cos like i said, the food there is gd. altho i don't think all of us ate our buffet's worth of 30bucks. i was slightly uncomfortable when the bosses were serving our table tho... it's just weird la. haha.. and uncle tan came to visit our table thrice!! like special service. heh. he was so amusing, chatting with my friends.

at the end of it all, i'm just glad for everything. i've come to really cherish family ties, manage my finances, and yup...definitely thankful for my friends too. they keep me grounded on my feet. come to think of it, my social circle is not wide at all, it revolves amgst the same few grps of pple. but yea, they're all really dear to me, simply because they are genuine, unpretentious pple whom i know i can count on for support. i guess i am the sort who draws those close to me arnd myself like a cosy blanket, if u get the analogy. it just.... makes me feel nice and warm inside out (and outside in). =)

brace myself ahead for the wkend+ festive crowds!! 5 days.

Gemstar blogged on 2/03/2005 11:29:00 PM

180-degree turn

wrk was pretty enjoyable tday. u know.. i'm qte sure i'm gg to miss waitressing there when i leave. geez. i enjoy myself when everything is manageable i guess. everyone really works well as a team.. fr. the bosses, to the kitchen chefs, the sushi chefs, us waitresses...even the guy who washes the dishes! i'm gonna miss all my colleagues manz!

altho every now and thn ur stress levels go up when the kitchen bell keeps ringing madly, and thn u pop inside to see plates and plates of food crowding the counter waiting to be served. *sweatdrop*

the kitchen staff are especially fun to be arnd with. really cheeky and all... on the 31st uncle sc was telling me with a big smile on his face, " i specially bought coffee cake for a celebration tday."
me: " celebrate what?"
him:" celebrate the fact tht 15 pple will be happy tday and 2 pple will not."
grin. he was referring to everyone getting paid and haha, just guess who the 2 unhappy pple are?

thn tday we had beng3 gui4 cos it was supposedly uncle tan's chinese b'day. *laughs* so we sang a bday song for him. thn he rejected all our b'day songs lor, damn funny. haha.. and er4 shi1 xiong1 deep-fried potato for us, and my task was to smuggle it into the pantry w'o the boss seeing. lol. and guess wad, i brought it safely in but yea, the nxt person to step inside was the boss cos she had to uncork this wine bottle for the customers.. heh. luckily she was amused too.

yup.the only mildly annoying thing was that this guy wanted me to drink sake with him. but he wasn't rowdily drunk or anything, thnk gdness, just a lil over-friendly, if u know wad i mean. i was like "shit!" inside when he asked me for my name, cos i cld sense smth coming up. sometimes i really pity the boss, cos everytime the regular customers come, they ask her to drink with thm.. and she can't possibly reject them outright, even tho she isn't exactly keen on entertaining thm. so not much of choice, drink to entertain la. oh, and haha. i disappeared at the right juncture, so i didn't hafta to drink in the end. no way manz.

madness

gosh. wrk tdy was major pffffffffffffft. we had arnd 6 tables of pple coming in at 730... and tht wasn't counting all the other walk-in customers. and hahaa. only 3 waitresses tday. geez. i feel the energy being sucked outta me day by day.

honestly, i can't imagine what it'll be like this wk-end, with only 4 of us left. my cousin's last day was ytdy (payday!), and this other part-time staff has flown off to hk to spend her new year. hoping and praying it'll storm during the dinner hours or smth. haha, evil me.

*whinEee* my wrists hurt, my feet hurt, i'm aching all over. i'm sick and tired of facing demanding b*tches and b*stards. there are some pple walking in and think the whole world owes them a living just because they have all the $$. gawd. how totally ugly and ungracious.

then there are others who are really sweet. i guess my satisfaction fr wrk comes when they leave, and they actually thank me warmly for serving them. it's kinda like, hey, i made another new friend. =)

steorotypes:
british have good table ettiquette. friendly and warm, polite, clean.

chinese are horribly messy eaters. all those bits and pieces and spills all over the table.

the japanese are really well-mannered! and kawaii.
was taking orders for this jap family tht day and this lil girl, mizuki, repeated every word i said. so cuteeee, i just had to ask her for her name. o namae wa? thn she became really shy. and there's this cute guy, who comes in and orders really lil, and starts getting engrossed in his megazine/book.

koreans never say their thank you-s. maybe kamsamhamida is all they know. -_-
