arf arf. new year greetings!
wassup? hmm.. every new year is getting more watered down, but some traditions remain the same, and i'm thankful for that.
its the whole idea of reunion, its very heartwarming having the entire extended family having dinner together. My dad with his brothers and sisters whom he sees only once, twice a year, and me with my cousins. My paternal side ain't that close, we only meet during this occasion, and my ahmah's death anniversary. sometimes, i feel quite bad having to rush off to my grandma's ( my mum's mum) right after, cos tht's what we do every year. problem is i somewhat have a generation gap with my dad's dad, he only speaks in hokkien, which i can understand, but i can't respond in kind. ahhh. we never seem to stay long enough, but when i'm there, i sorta stone. while he and my dad talks. well he definitely loves his grandchildren tht's for sure, always asking us to take the packet drinks(he has lotsa them) and giving us pocket $$.... he's pretty much healthy now for his age, although we went thru this straining period 2 yrs ago when he had kidney problems. oh gosh, it scared me to see him frail and all in the icu, but he's better now, thankfully. hmm. i still dun feel as though i'm a gd enough granddaughter. *guilty*
good thing is us cousins are getting closer, as in... we talk alot more to each other, find out more abt what each other is doing and stuff.. hahaha. we had a small yu-sheng fr. hanabi tht i bought. yum yum yum. only the "kids" table had it. i'm mildly amused. i'm 20 but i still sit at the "xiao hai zi" table as my dad puts it. =_= what else, 1 cousin was recently married, so it felt weird to receive angpows from her. omg. we're old huh.
and my cousin brought his 2 dogs to my grandma's tdy. sho cute, we took turns taking photos with the small one. its sucha darling u know, very obedient, very gentle, very quiet. really short legs and small body.it'll lick u with its small tongues and wag its tiny tail, thn it'll cock its ears and look at you. super cute! its only a baby, 3mths old, so it was totally the cntr of attn amgst us. and it gets tired and slpy and takes naps here and there, like it'll crawl under the sofa and just snooze. heh. we thought it was lost or sth. heh. okay the other doggy's a jack russel, has an annoying high pitched bark, but the owners love it to bits anyway. this one's super hyper, has to be leashed, and goes into a frenzy whenever it sees a ball. lol. so much for welcoming the dog year.
oh, and i wore a cheongsam tdy !!! my grandma was like shanghai tan1 when she saw me.. thn she insisted on taking lotsa photos with me. super cute, i love my grandma. even my ah gong who's always very reticent and doesn't bother (too many grandkids already) noticed and said it was nice. yay. hahah. tdy's ang pow giving session was hilarious, opy and lingling the 2 eldest cousins were like very hyper, it was amusing. hahahah... the guy even knelt in front of my aunt when receiving angpow.
i love my extended families. =) counting my blessings. happy new year everyone!

sr is functioning at a max 50% level of energy today. pardon the following incoherence. am sneezing lots, but its stopped alr, heh, maybe someone's thinking of me. right. ahhah oh geez. i'm envious of ntu's new hostel(condo style) facilities. hahaah am soooo gg to visit if/when my cousin moves in! funny how i find myself really at ease with her friends. and bleah, 50% energy cos its the "time of the month". which was hilarious cos edwin used tht line on himself when i chatted briefly with him last night on msn. i've ALWAYS use tht to explain my mood swings, grin.and bummer, right before cny too argh. i slept but i still feel really tired, and weak. and i've got an 8.30am class tmr. and i miss having someone to rant/whine to abt lil stuff like that. sian ar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its been unusually quiet these days.
my phone.
no more beeping sms-es, nor nice long chats over the phone
if its anything its always wrk related, or outings i'm organizing -_-
my msn.
i'm mildly amused by the busy sign, its kinda ironic that everyone goes online and hangs their away or busy sign. Like, if you're really busy, what the hell are you doing online? heh. the internet/msn remains my no.1 nemesis, distracting me from doing any work whatsoever. these days, i find myself stoning online, if you can call it that, i surf from page to page, blog to blog.basically just veer off the track after visiting oasis to d'l my notes and checking the schl email.
i do suspect i'd be 1000 times more efficient if i cut myself offline altogether, but printing notes (so i can refer to them instead of via the com) is such a chore.
just feel like rambling on tonight.
visited my client for ltb yesterday... we'll be organizing a weekly carnival event for the old folks, and i honestly foresee its going to be damn alot of work. well, the home's a pretty and peaceful place, lovely well tended gardens, koi ponds around... facilities wise, not bad at all. What struck me though was their vacant expressions, just sitting along the corridor in their wheelchairs, outside the rooms which resemble hospital dorms. we sung for them, the regular volunteers: a guy playing his guitar, and 2 other guys plus my ltb group, we were chucked song lyrics on the spot, heh. talk about impromptu. its a dreary life in there, not much to look forward to. its a scary thought, growing old alone, being left in the care of outsiders. I admire the volunteers' cheery spirit, even when singing for them we got very lil response, which i found discouraging, some were frowning even. though it did bring back fond memories of carolling for the old folks back in those rg days.
Its true and sad that, most volunteers, especially students, are never able to commit longterm when it comes to doing community service. they come, collect their requisite number of hours, and disappear into oblivion after. the feedback from the counsellor was, in the patients' words," ... feel like they're animals in a zoo." oh dear. =(
Our own intentions at the momment too are pretty much doubtful, which is so wrong, you do community wrk with your heart, not because of some ulterior motive. i think i enjoyed vteering more when i was under youth challenge during the long hols, although it was really a short stint for me. at least then i was contributing because i really wanted to. geez. really need a change of mentality, forget tht this entire project is a course requirement, and put my heart into it as well. i miss being ard people with a genuine passion and compassion for other people... both azi and pam were really inspirational back in yc, wonder where they are studying now?
what else? enjoyed a nice dinner with josh and ching and co at nydc too... all's gd, cept it was pouring like mad earlier, orchard rd was terribly jammed, and tempers just flared in the car. argh. well. was glad to have a gd chat with josh and ching after so looong i guess. tired. bed.

smooo's campus officially opens today, yay !! well, sitting from home watching the livecast on the net makes one very detatched from the entire proceedings altogether. ah, that happens when you're not involved in any of the ccas, but i'd say our performing standards are way up there !!! how exciting. i miss performing. boohoo.
hmm... only managed to catch blur glimpses of the latin dancers and their hot costumes, can't spot huilin.. nor kelly !!!! poor resolution.
i suppose i really should count my blessings to be able to study in this uni. we're different !!! honestly i haven't exactly gotten used to the highly participative style in class, but yeah its prob better this sem, speaking up more. the anecdote about this guy who spent 12 months out of his 36mths of studies here overseas, was pretty inspiring. i really ought to enjoy myself more during classes and make better use of the opportunities available too. oh well,one step at a time. =)
